It is important those who provide input to the education of children in England, on a regular basis, are properly assessed and qualified.
Currently, training and preparation of business people for these roles is informal and the involvement is taken on trust by the schools, which inevitably results in variable quality of supply.
We have created a formal standard for School Business Mentors for which the resulting certification is either a Full Qualification or a Unit Accreditation under the Qualification and Curriculum Framework (QCF).
The qualification comprises two tiers; Programme Coordinator and Classroom Facilitator.
Programme Coordinator - Level 3
The role of the Programme Coordinator will be to work with the schools to develop programmes for delivery, ensuring they fit with the school timetable and assist in achieving learning outcomes for young people.
Programme Coordinators will deliver material and have supervisory responsibility for Classroom Facilitators.
Classroom Facilitator - Level 2
The role of the Classroom Facilitator will be to assist in the delivery of material to young people.
They will not be involved in developing programmes but will require knowledge and understanding of how schools function to contextualise their delivery.
